Any couple who chooses a destination wedding in Hawaii expects the weather to be warm and tropical, especially in summer months. Your wedding photos will be something you cherish, and look at hundreds of times over the decades, sharing them with family, friends, and co-workers. How can the bride look fabulous despite warm and perhaps humid weather? Here are a few tips from Hawaii Weddings.

If you’re planning a summer wedding, prepare weeks ahead of time to make sure your look is sweat-proof. Choose make-up that’s designed for long wear, or those that control oil if you have oily skin. Also make sure to choose products that cover the pink or red tone should you be exposed to the sun for longer than you intended prior to your wedding. Have long or curly/frizzy hair? Consider an updo, and use products designed to tame frizz such as a calming crème prior to styling.

Avoid the sun as much as possible. Hitting the beach is natural when you visit Hawaii; if you’re planning a beach wedding, staying out of the sun can be difficult. Be sure to slather on plenty of sunscreen, and get to the shade whenever possible. A wide-brimmed hat will help keep your face from burning as well. If despite all of your efforts you end up with pink/red skin, apply a lightweight moisturizer that’s tinted over noticeable areas and blend to conceal.

Drink lots of water. Staying hydrated isn’t easy when you’re on the beach, exposed to the sun, or drinking cocktails that contain alcohol at your rehearsal dinner or pre-wedding parties and get-togethers. The combination of alcohol and sun exposure may leave your skin looking tired and dehydrated. How to combat looking older than your years? Drink flavored water, avoid the sun as much as possible, and try not to have too many margaritas (or other alcoholic drinks) on the day and evening prior to your wedding day.

Give every shot your best smile. Happiness is evident when you have a genuine smile. Trends come and go – in years’ past, it was considered sexy to have a pouty or moody look, but how will that come across in 10, 20, or 30 years? Smile from ear to ear, and use whitening strips a week or two prior to your wedding to ensure your brightest, whitest smile. Choosing the right shade of lipstick is also important, so choose vibrant pink shades with blue undertones to ensure your teeth look their brightest.
