Dear Captain Howie and gang,

Thank you so much for giving us an amazing Hawaii wedding! It was better than we could have ever dreamed. We knew we wanted to have a Hawaiian wedding ceremony, we just didn’t know where. We had looked at many sites, but Capt. Howie’s stood out as the best. We were very pleased with how our special day turned out. The scenery at Pukalani Falls and Angels Bay is indescribable! Our Hawaii wedding was an amazing way to bring our families together and share this wonderful moment in our lives. We will always remember our beautiful wedding and are very grateful for Captain Howie and his staff!

Thanks so much,

Captain Howie,

From the time we decided to get married in Hawaii we knew we wanted a simple intimate Hawaiian beach wedding. Thankfully, we got exactly what we asked for – and more. I am not the type of person who wanted to plan out every little detail of our wedding day. You made our planning experience so easy. After sending a few emails and making a few phone calls everything was ready to go. It was so nice that you and your staff of Oahu wedding planners took care of pretty much everything for us. We had never been to Oahu before so finding a great photographer like Fernando, beautiful flower leis, a picture perfect ceremony site, and a gorgeous wedding cake would’ve been really hard to pull together.

We can’t say thank you enough to Fernando for being our photographer. Having your picture taken and having to smile for 2+ hours can be kind of awkward but he made us feel so comfortable and at home the whole time. He had so many great ideas for pictures and was also very accommodating to any poses we wanted to do as well. He showed us a few photos on his camera as we were taking them and we can’t wait to see all of them.

We are not very traditional people and don’t have “traditional” religious beliefs. Captain Howie made sure to ask us about this before our ceremony and he made our ceremony unique to our beliefs. I don’t have words to describe how we felt listening to Captain Howie speak during our ceremony. It was like he was speaking directly about Mitch and I and our life together and that is not something that you hear at every wedding. Anyone can read verses out of the bible and tell you that things in your life together won’t always be perfect or easy. It was nice to have something other than the “cookie cutter marriage sermon”.

We are so happy with how everything turned out. We had a sunrise ceremony and I would recommend that to anyone! We went out for lunch with our family after the ceremony and then to a luau that night. I think that was a perfect way to spend our day. Thank you Captain Howie so much for making our Hawaii wedding day better than we ever imagined.

Kelly and Larry Evans • Colorado Springs, Colorado • Wedding near Honolulu

August 9th, 2011

Dear Captain Howie and Gang,

Thank you so much for a beautiful wedding!  As we began our wedding plans we were looking at either having a large wedding in Colorado or a smaller wedding in Hawaii, perhaps in my hometown of Honolulu.  My head was spinning at the prospect of planning a large wedding and Larry’s family were rooting for a wedding in the islands.  We eventually did decide on having the wedding near Honolulu, in Hawaii, and I knew that I wanted to have the ceremony on the beach or in a garden, and was lucky enough to come across your website.  I found out that your location is near my parent’s home and your beach weddings are held on beautiful Angels Bay Beach, a favorite location of Larry’s from his first visit to Hawaii.

You made the planning process very easy and I always received a prompt response to my questions via e-mail or the phone.  When people would ask me if I was nervous or worried about the wedding, I could honestly tell them “no” because almost everything was taken care of through you.

The morning of the wedding my sister and I arrived for our hair and make-up and were very happy with how we looked.  Wade made us feel at ease and comfortable and we looked absolutely fabulous.  Our photographer was also wonderful and we enjoyed our picture session with him and love our photos.  Our only regret is that we didn’t order more!

For our ceremony, we had ordered the bamboo arch and white chairs for our guests.  I can tell you that I was a bit worried about how the arch would look and previous to the wedding had considered canceling it.  But I am very glad that we had it because Larry and I were so pleased with how it turned out and how beautiful it looked on the beach.  The ceremony itself was simple and everyone commented on how they enjoyed Captain Howie’s ceremony and his talk on love and commitment.  We couldn’t ask for a better ceremony and location.

Thank you to everyone at Above Heaven’s Gate for a wonderful Hawaiian wedding.  We will cherish our memories and photos forever!

Dear Captain Howie,

We would like to thank you, your wife Deva, and your staff for an unforgettable Hawaii wedding experience! EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!! There are so many great things we don’t know where to start. Your makeup artist did a wonderful job. She made my wife look even more beautiful than she already is; when I turned to see her for the first time it was breathtaking. The photographer and videographer were very patient and even asked if we had any ideas for shots. I loooooooooooved the fact that we were able to run down the beach, away from camera, to end our video!! It looks awesome!!

Your availability to meet with us days before the ceremony was greatly appreciated and it put our nerves at ease. We appreciate your flexibility in waiting for the last two guests to arrive before cutting the cake.

There is just so much to compliment! Deciding to get married anywhere else would have been a great injustice. We haven’t been able to stop raving about the entire experience at Above Heaven’s Gate!! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful scenery. Our Hawaiian wedding was a dream-come-true!

Dear Captain Howie and wife, Chrissy, Jodie, and Fernando:

This was a Hawaii wedding vow renewal for us since I had to deploy shortly after we were married last April. We postponed our honeymoon until my return. Consequently, I wanted to make it really special!   After reviewing several other websites, I came across your’s and saw your video with the “we’re not for everyone” disclaimer.  I instantly knew you were the right one.

I can’t even begin to say how much I truly appreciate what you all have done for us!  You’ve allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream event for my wife.  For that, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  Your facilities at Pukalani Falls Garden and the Hobbit House were magical.  Angels Bay Beach was fantastic. Your photographer was truly an expert and really had style. Our whole experience was exactly what we were looking for!  Your staff was very professional and treated us like family.

My wife said to pass on her “kudos” to the make-up artist, Wade, for making her look “so very glamorous”.  We highly recommend you to anyone who is looking for a Honolulu wedding planner and an unbelievable matrimonial experience.

Dear Captain Howie,

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to you and your team for making our Hawaiian wedding very beautiful and definitely unforgettable.  One of the most remarkable things that we remember, from our very first interaction until our last, is the superior quality and excellence in everything that you and your team of wedding planners in Hawaii did for us.   Everyone was very responsive yet kind and warm at the same time.

Wade, our hair and make-up artist with over fifteen years of professional experience was wonderfully skilled and extremely enjoyable to work with too.  He worked absolute magic in transforming my wife into the bride that she had imagined. Our photographer, Fernando, was patient, kind, funny and a very.  He made sure the wind, light, sand, clouds, waves, hair, bouquet, veil and everything else was aligned to ensure perfection in each of our pictures. While he was working with such precision, he kept us laughing and having fun so it did not seem like he was working at all.

You and your team Hawaii wedding planners seemed so laid back and unobtrusive throughout our wedding. It is surprising you do not forget any detail.  Of course, the grounds and gardens at Pukalani Falls, and the beach are Angels Bay are beautiful so there was no doubt that the ceremony would be beautiful as well.

One last thing we really enjoyed was that Sara went above and beyond by making our reservation for our sunset beach dinner near our hotel.  Capt. Howie, thank you for your wisdom and warmth imparted during the beautifully amazing ceremony.  We will never forget the whole experience or the individuals that made our Hawaii wedding day so special.  You ALL exceeded our expectations in every way!

With Sincerity,
Aaron & Michelle Dunwoody

Dear Captain Howie, Wade, Fernando, Arturo, Jodie, Sara, and anyone else we forgot!

Just as we are settling in back at home from our honeymoon, I put “write thank you to Captain Howie” on my “to do” list.  And surprise, we were thrilled to receive the CD in the mail today with our photos!  That was fast!

We want to thank you so much for making our Hawaii Wedding Day so wonderful and special.  We know you do this every day – sometimes more than once a day! Still, you made us feel as if it was as important a day for you as it was for us!

When we knew we were going to have a Hawaiian wedding , I started looking for information on how to go about it.  I found some places on the Internet but then saw the website for Above Heaven’s Gate in a guidebook.  As soon as I saw the website, I loved it and knew that was where I wanted our wedding to be!  Captain Howie’s soothing voice and gentle, friendly demeanor on the video portions of the website made me want to meet him!  From that day on, I spent hours on the site, checking out every part, reading it all and watching the videos.  Everything was very clear and easy to understand.  The clincher was the photos!  I looked at entire albums of  many couples, imagining Andy and I in them…in the garden, on the beach, and on that lovely romantic, four poster bed!

In January, we came to look at the Hobbit House, the grounds, and the beach — of course, we had to see it for ourselves!  Everything was just as beautiful as the photos and we booked our wedding that day!  Chrissy and Jodie were always so friendly whenever we spoke on the phone… the ultimate Hawaii wedding coordinators.

After much anticipation and planning, finding all the right clothes and accessories and worrying about the weather,  our special Day arrived on July 11!  I had been quite crazed for weeks before as I was moving from New York to Hawaii, arriving just a week before our wedding. Even the day before was full of unexpected snafus.  But, as we set off in the dark of night from our hotel to Angels Bay, we were full of excitement. Even at 4am, Captain Howie was up and cheerfully directed us.

I was struck by the beautiful smell of Andy’s ti-leaf lei as soon as I entered the room where I had my hair and makeup done. Two hours flew by as Wade worked his wonders on me with his hair and makeup artistry!  I had so much fun chatting with him as he did the work.  When I looked in the mirror, I was so pleased to see that I looked as pretty as I felt!  Then Captain Howie brought in my bouquet! It was so beautiful and colorful!  I was so happy I stuck with my original choice for the flowers (Ocean Sunrise).  All the fun colors caught my eye from the start.  Andy joked that it looked like Fruity Pebbles!  For months, I debated whether or not to change and then I just couldn’t because it had turned into our little joke and we had to have the Fruity Pebble bouquet for our wedding.  I absolutely LOVED it.  I must tell you that we went for lunch at a hotel in Waikiki, then walked around a bit, went to the airport and flew in our wedding clothes. During that time and while checking into our hotel, we received many, “Congratulations!” from people, many followed by compliments on my flowers and how  pretty they were!  We also brought the rest of our yummy liliko’i cake with us on our honeymoon and enjoyed it.

At 6am we started our photo session.  I had been looking forward to this part so much!  Photographs are so important to me and would be the visual memories that we would look at forever to remember one of the most special days we would ever have.  In addition, since we decided to have the ceremony with just the two of us, the photos would be what we would have to show family and friends.  I was so happy to meet Fernando, as I was such a big fan of the work I had admired for so many months!  We had so much fun taking the pictures!  Fernando and Arturo were funny and friendly and we soon got used to hearing, “Look at me, look at each other, kiss,” for the photos we took in each place!  It was obvious what care Fernando took to make each photo perfect as he waited for a cloud to go by or pulled a stray leaf out of a plant before taking the pictures.  I really appreciated his attention to detail. Even though he has done this job hundreds (thousands?!) of times, it felt wonderful that he seemed to know how important these photos would be to us and did everything he could to make them look the best they could possibly be. Next to actually getting married, the photos were the next most important part of the day for me.  Luckily, the sun was shining and the sky and water on the beach were every shade of blue imaginable, just as I had pictured it in my mind 1000 times. We had so much fun looking through all the photos.  I had sent the preview photo you sent us out to friends and was told, “Your skin looks flawless!”  - part Wade, part digital Botox, no doubt!  Now comes the work of choosing which ones to send out to everyone and how we will do our album.

Captain Howie, thank you so much for a lovely Hawaiian beach wedding ceremony.  It was so nice to be just the two of us with you, barefoot on the beach, sand in our toes, the sound of the waves, with the colors of the beach as the setting for such an important moment in our lives.  You are amazing blowing into that shell!  We loved the words you said, speaking about the commitment we were making to each other and keeping that commitment in the good but also, any rough times that inevitably come along in any marriage.  We laughed later about the analogy you made because it absolutely applied to us! Andy loves shopping at Costco and I love eating the samples and we both love cheese!  But honestly, what you said about the indescribable quality of love – how there are just no words for it – it is just so true!  Nothing is better, nothing can compare to it, and there are just no words for how it feels for us to love and be loved by each other.  We had such a nice time talking with you afterwards and then we set off for a lunch and then flew to Maui for our honeymoon!

Everything was perfect and went flawlessly because of all the behind-the-scenes work by you and your staff.  We are so happy we chose Above Heaven’s Gate.  We will remember you and our wedding forever!  Thank you again for everything!  Everything was absolutely perfect for us. There was not a thing we could think of that could have made the day better.

Aloha Above Heaven’s Gate Staff,

What an absolutely breathtaking wedding! We would not have done it any different!

Both Angels Bay Beach and Pukalani Falls Garden provided gorgeous scenery on our wedding day.  I am so glad we chose Above Heaven’s Gate! When we arrived, we received a warm greeting from Captain Howie’s crew.

My sister-in-law and I were taken to a studio for hair and make up. Our stylist was fantastic! When she had finished and I got into my wedding dress, I looked into a mirror and had tears come to my eyes.  I have never looked so amazing! My hair and make-up were exactly what I had dreamed of. I wish I could have taken Wade home with me.

Our videographer and photographer were genuinely friendly and professional.  We cannot wait to see our video and pictures. Captain Howie also made us feel very comfortable.  Any butterflies and nervousness we had all went away once we spoke to him.  Captain Howie’s ceremony itself was beautiful.  When he blew the conch shell, the sound was incredible!

Our family members that attended our wedding in Hawaii  cannot stop saying how they honestly have never seen a more beautiful wedding ceremony. I also have a few pictures that were taken with our camera at the beach and have been told that the pictures look unreal, just too beautiful with vibrant blue skies and turquoise ocean in the background. Just last night, my husband said our wedding was not like an everyday church wedding – full of stress.  It was as if we were making a movie on the beach.  Everything was so laid back.

From the moment I saw my dress for the first time since I sent it to Hawaii, everything turned out amazingly perfect. I had coordinated the shipping with Sara and when I arrived it was all laid out for me. I had no worries the rest of that day!

Thank you all for an unbelievable experience.  We would not change a thing. Our Hawaii Wedding was the best ever!

Greetings to all,

First of all our apologies for not getting back to you sooner… newly weds you know. Getting back to reality can be a real shocker! Above Heaven’s Gate is second to none! From the moment we started looking for a Hawaiian wedding we were captivated by Captain Howie and his crew. We immediately stopped looking once we had seen their Hawaii wedding packages.

On our wedding day we decided to drive to the Pukalani Falls Garden and take in the breath taking scenery, a very wise decision on our part! When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Captain Howie’s crew. Elizabeth was whisked away into a private air-conditioned room for her hair and make up. Wade was truly amazing, WOW! It was like having your very own private make up artist to the stars!

As Elizabeth was getting ready, I relaxed in the garden, patiently waiting for my beautiful bride to appear. When she did, I knew I was the luckiest man alive. Our videographer and photographer worked together and made us feel very comfortable and secure. They are truly artists, and worked hard to assure our photos and video would be done right.

The ceremony was truly amazing. Captain Howie’s choice of words were beautiful and touched us deeply. It was as if he could see into our hearts and souls and knew exactly what to say. It touched us deeply. Captain Howie told us that the longer he could blow the conch shell, the longer our marriage would be blessed. Well I didn’t think that he would ever stop blowing the shell.

Thank you all at Above Heavens Gate for the most memorable day in our lives.
